Special Educator for the Introduction Program

Your Responsibilities

As a special educator, you have the overall picture of the operations regarding pedagogical mapping of individual students and student groups in need of special support. You establish and follow up on action plans and students' progress at both group and individual levels. The role also includes guiding and supporting teams and colleagues in methods and approaches to increase students' learning opportunities. You also support the development of the operation and create learning environments that promote development and learning for all students.

As a special educator with us, you will be part of the school's student health team (EHT) together with the principal. The high school also has two other special educators with whom you will collaborate. You also support the principal with special educational tasks.

The special educator acts at the individual, group, and organizational levels, depending on needs and local adaptations. The special educator is a conversation partner and advisor for students, colleagues, the principal, guardians, and other relevant parties in both support and pedagogical matters. The assignment also includes participating in professional development and staying updated on current theories and research, spreading this knowledge to colleagues at the school.

Your Workplace

Berzeliusskolan is a centrally located school in Linköping with modern facilities. It includes the upper secondary school, high school, and adapted high school. The high school comprises the natural sciences and technology programs as well as the introduction program focusing on language introduction and individual alternatives. There are approximately 1900 students, of which over 1000 are in high school, and about 330 staff members at the school.

Who You Are

You must have a teaching license for middle school or high school and have completed or be in the process of completing special education training.

You must have previous work experience in the school sector and be familiar with the school's curriculum. It is an advantage if you have experience working with special educational support or literacy and writing development methods. Experience with students in the introduction program or other experience with students in need of special support is also advantageous.

You have good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish. This is necessary for you to organize and implement work in accordance with the curriculum so that students receive support in their language and communication development.

You create participation and have good collaboration skills. You listen, communicate, and resolve conflicts effectively. You have a good understanding of how people acquire knowledge and can adapt your way of conveying messages to others. You communicate clearly. You are confident in yourself, see relationships in their proper perspective, and act based on your professional judgment and conviction. Furthermore, you take responsibility for planning and organizing activities effectively. You consider the larger perspective and look out for the best interests of the entire operation. Additionally, you are flexible, both in handling students with different support needs and in working across two different buildings.
